Recommend Alternatives to PayPal

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone can recommend any cheap or free (I wish!) alternatives to PayPal for receiving money overseas outside of Europe. Is PayPal the most reasonable when it comes to overseas transactions, or is there another site with lower overseas transaction fees available?

This may or may not be a factor but this is for a personal transaction, not for business. PayPal does not offer the 'Friends & Family' option in the country the funds are coming from.

Has anyone had any experience with alternative payment methods for overseas funds?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Google Wallet and Stripe are two that come to mind.

Not really sure about the overseas thing - worth checking out though.

Maybe check with your bank.... they may have a company where you can pay into it without fees. I know when I went on hols there was a barclays there which wouldn't have cost me anything to bank in.

You've also got reference numbers on your accounts for foreign transfers iirc, pretty sure it's called iban . Be sure to check out fees though, I got stung by a few quid on a job I did which was non uk payment :(

Thanks, judging by their video, it seems Google Wallet is only for UK transactions.

Stripe looks more promising though, I may send them an e-mail.

Why not just do a direct payment to your bank account though?

Will most likely end up doing that, as it is cheaper than PayPal. Was just looking for any possible cheaper ways with the lowest transfer fees.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yeah I know the feeling! Yeah, it's the fees I am focusing on, if not I will just go for the direct bank transfer option.

I have used Skrill (moneybookers) for a long time now. The fees are good and if you move enough money you can get into their VIP for better fees.

You do have to phone them though for anything as they just flat out refuse to read emails. I'm just going back to them but had a skype contact for VIP before which is helpful.

The other main one that guys I know use is Neteller but I think Skrill is more widely accepted.

Soooo the results are in, and the winner seems to be...... PayPal.... yeah...

I've looked into all of your suggestions: Google Wallet was a no go as they only deal with UK transactions but direct payment vs Skrill vs Neteller vs Paypal, and Paypal comes out on top with everything. They have cheaper fees and much, much faster delivery of funds. Stripe is a bit of a pain to communicate with, they told me they only deal with business transactions and wanted to know information about my business and my website etc, so the only information I've been able to find out about their fees and processing times etc, are from their website, they do not have a phone number like the other companies, which is quite off putting for me, as having to communicate via e-mail slows everything down. I highly doubt they'd have cheaper rates than PayPal anyway...

Thank you all again for all your help and suggestions.
