Which is best PC (not Mac) for graphic design work?

Hi champions,

I need quick advice on your recommended type of PC (desktop - tower only) that are powerful and suitable for graphic design / video editing work? (big RAM, i7 processor, 7500rpm HD, etc)

I know Mac would be the best but for this case it has to be PC :-( and my boss need to know quickly so he can go out and buy them urgently as we have work to do.

Any ready to go PC tower that we should look at? Brand name? PC World store is ok? Any pls?

Basically yea. The only good reason to get a PC over a Mac is budget. A PC will cost less, but you get what you pay for. Hence why every designer and design agency uses a Mac.

If you are feeling brave then I'd recommend component parts and a self-build all day long. Especially for a simple tower unit. There are some good suppliers of motherboard bundles out there which are the worst/most fiddly part of a self-build. Find a good i7 bundle and then you just need to put it in a case, plug in your extra peripherals (hard drive, optical drive, network card etc), load your software (possibly already bought for Windows, hence the 'no Mac' thing) and you are away.

Remember the key to a good build is balance. There is no point in spending loads on one component to have it compromised by sub-standard parts in the rest of the PC.

I'd try these guys; PC Components, Desktop PCs, Laptops, LCD TVs & Computer Hardware over PC World any day. At least their sales staff actually know what they are talking about (or at least they do in our branch). Their bare bone bundles and pre-built towers are also excellent value/spec for the money.

If I were you Nas I'd avoid any threads that have the potential to turn into a Mac vs PC argument. Trust me it is the most boring and pointless argument on the planet, no one ever wins as both camps are so deeply entrenched there is no room for manoeuvre and they go on for pages and pages and pages...

But what about someone who uses a Mac at work and a PC at home, does that make them Bitextual?
