Designers who look down their noses at pre press really hack me off. Especially when you try and help them and they always know better than you about the equipment you work with everyday. 'I have perfect knowledge of print' - why send an unprintable file then?

Use overprint preview, and listen when your pre press person tries to help you. And what would be nice would be a thanks every once in a while instead of ignorance. The amount of times I've emailed clients on behalf of the sales department to help sort a job out and been met with nothing at all, no reply, nada. Most of the time they just email sales back and say ' oh it must have been such and such causing the issue, I've now fixed it,' - - such and such being something they made up, and no, they haven't fixed the job as they ignored what I emailed to them. I've even gotten people to proof read my emails before I send them in case it's me coming across as arrogant or something, and apparently my boss and the sales dep. says my emails are fine.

sigh.

Our solution = design + pre-press + press (under one roof).

we do this too - i am a designer too, but we also take in work. And our guys will accept ANY file. seriously. I had to scan an enormous plastic sign the other day, taken down from outside the company's business. WTF??

Wouldn't it have been easier to photograph it? Sounds very much like my old place.

...designers guessing what their client requires in terms of spec, me taking the time to quote on this on many different quantities and variations for the goal posts to move considerably when they do ask!

I'm so glad I've found this thread. I need it! Sorry in advance if upset any pet owners.

Where I live there are quite a few cats... which is fine. But do they they really need to use my front garden as a litter tray????? I can't stand the fact that cats roam about doing what they want where they want. I don't have pets so why should I clean up after other peoples?... And now I think someone is letting their dog join in. I'm so annoyed with it that I'm seriously going to try and get a letter published in the local free paper so that all my neighbours can read it. I'm even on the verge of putting up a sign on my front lawn saying 'THIS IS NOT A LITTER TRAY!'.

Wow... I sound like Victor Mildrew, but I feel so much better now.

Definately cats... I've caught them in the act a few times. It's funny because they don't know whether to finish what they're doing or to just run for it.
