Adobe CS5.5?

Seems like a bit of trick to make some money without making many changes. What are the differences between CS5 and 5.5, saw that some programs like Illustrator haven't changed by the looks of things but InDesign, Catalyst and flash now have the 5.5 if you want to buy the design premium.

Just got an email about 15 minutes ago from Adobe saying it has been released, hadn't heard anything until then.

The main difference is DW. Following the whole 'issue' with the CS5 release and the promise that you could make flash apps, only for Apple to chuck their toys out of the pram, has meant they had top replace it with something. DW CS5.5 now boasts HTML5/JQuery Framework app development support... Until Steve Jobs gets bored tracking iPhone users round the planet and bans that

Aren't Adobe kicking off their monthly subscription with CS5.5? Pay £XX a month and get every new version rather than £3k for the latest Creative Suite then another £3k in 18 months.

They’ve started their subscription thing but if you have the most recent version it’s still cheaper to just upgrade it normally. I think it’s aimed at people who are 2 or 3 versions behind really.

Rumour has it, it will be subscription only from CS6 onwards. That will be interesting/expensive for suckers like me who have only just forked out for the full package.

Its not £3k though. Its only about £1100 for Design premium for instance. It was roughly like £600 to upgrade from the previous version last time I checked though, which is pretty expensive if Adobe bring a new version out only a few months after buying the current version.

CS5.5 is mainly aimed at digital (flash and dreamweaver are 5.5) and video production / post production (premier and after effects are 5.5) everything else (bar a few of the non 'main' apps) is the same as cs5 so its pretty much a pointless upgrade for anyone who uses only photoshop, illustrator and indesign for instance.

I’ve not done my sums but isn’t it more expensive to go from say 5 to 6 than from 5 to 5.5 to 6. I always worry about getting more than a version behind in anything as you get stung (OSX is a good case in point 10.4 to 10.6 is £120. 10.5 to 10.6 is something like £20).

Unless you do high end video productsion and effects or digital specialising in mobile and app development it would be totally pointless getting cs5.5 as all other products not related to those categories at the same cs5 products. Upgrade costs are expensive so upgrading twice (cs5 > cs5.5 > cs6) might cost more than upgrading from cs5 > cs6 potentially. I remember upgrading from cs3 to cs4 was going to cost £600 for design premium, which is 50% of the original cost!

I know, I was making up numbers because I coudn't be arsed to look it up. On a side note Master collection costs a shade over £2,760 so my £3k wasn't too far off. lol
