I have aquired some software, legitimately, but it was bought in someone elses name. I want to register it, so i get the benefits - is this possible even though it wasn't my card that was used to buy it? Would Adobe cross reference the details?

As far as I know, all you require is the serial. It'll then ask you your details, so you'd punch those in.
Then every time you start a program, it'll state on the splash screen, that it's registered to you. It's fine, so long as the other person hasn't already registered with that particular serial.
Credit/Debit card details are irrelevant for this procedure.

Yeah, serial will be fine - it won't be linked to the payment type.
